Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: PROSTITUTION ALTERNATIVES COUNSELLING AND EDUCATION SOCIETY (PACE)
Location: Vancouver, British Columbia
Date: 2007-10-12
Value: $118,000.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: Five ongoing support groups will empower 50 participants through peer support and community involvement. Using the Asset Mapping Inventory, which PACE developed through the Journey Women Project, two peer support workers will harness the wisdom and experiences of survival sex workers. In one-to-one and group settings, individuals will use the Inventory to determine their strengths, transferable skills and positive self-awareness, which will increase their self-esteem and capability. Non-statistical documentation will be gathered to measure the Inventory’s effectiveness. Participants will also be involved in violence prevention and harm reduction workshops; chronic disease self-management programs; art therapy groups; community gardening; and workshops on cooking, nutrition and other topics (such as First Aid and tenant and welfare rights). They will also be provided with links to professional counselling and therapy. As well, the group will research the viability of other service providers in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.
