| Purpose: |
Through a series of training events and materials available in various forms, approximately 105 women across Canada (with 80% of direct project activities taking place in the North) will become familiar with holistic tools related to CEDAW at the community and national levels. Four regional workshops will be held in Whitehorse, Yellowknife, Inuvik, and Iqaluit for a total of 75 women from different age and societal groups. In addition, a national northern-based session for 30 women will be held in Thunder Bay. The primary target audience for the national session will be members of women’s organization who can further disseminate what they learn through their organizations’ activities and networks. The tools delivered at these sessions will enable women to understand all facets of the CEDAW Convention and how it applies to their personal lives, to the business world, to the community sector and to government. All sessions will also have a “Train-the-Trainer” component, which will allow the 105 women to impart the information they learned both formally (e.g. training sessions, workshops, events) and informally (e.g. direct personal contact) with 1700 other women over the next two years. This will result in women having the knowledge to participate more actively and make more informed choices, for example, choices about employment. |
