International Women's Day

International Women's Day/International Women's Week 2012

Description of Poster

The International Women's Day and International Women's Week 2012 poster is in portrait format. The background is white.

At the top, centred in small, sans-serif, black capital letters, it reads "International Women's Day, March 8, 2012" On the second line, centred in large, sans-serif, blue capital letters, it reads "Strong Women Strong Canada."  Both the word "women" and the word "Canada" are in bold. On the third line, centred in small, sans-serif, blue capital letters it reads "Women in Rural, Remote and Northern Communities: Key to Canada's Economic Prosperity."

Below these three lines of text is the main and only graphic on the poster.  It is a map of Canada, and the map is filled in with photographs.  The map itself is composed of a series of circles, like bubbles.  Around the edges of the map, these circles are small and separate, but close together.  As you move inward from the edges, the circles merge together until they become a solid background.

There are four photographs inside the map outline, but they are blended together from left to right to create a continuum.

The left most photo (covering roughly the British Columbia and Yukon areas of the map) shows the Arctic tundra in summer.  There is a small lake in the foreground and a rounded mountain in the background. The navy blue sky is streaked with white and green sheets of the northern lights.

The next photo (covering roughly the prairie provinces, the Northwest Territories and some of Nunavut) shows the prairies in summer.  In the bottom half of the image, mature, golden wheat plants wave in the wind. The top half of the photo shows a light blue summer sky streaked with light clouds.

The next photo (covering Ontario and some of Quebec) shows a paved city street, with the yellow line down the middle.  There is a car at the left hand side of the photo. The street is aligned north-south on the map and stretches between the U.S. border and the south shore of Hudson's Bay.

Finally, the right hand photo (covering part of Quebec and the Atlantic provinces) shows a maritime scene.  There are fishing style motor boats in the harbour.  A coastal village is visible in the background with a few houses beneath a blue sky.

Underneath this image, the French text is written out. On the first line, centred in small, sans-serif, blue capital letters it reads "Les Femmes dans les collectivités rurales, éloignées et nordiques : clé de la prospérité du Canada." On the second line, centred in large, sans-serif, blue capital letters, it reads "Force des femmes force du Canada."  Both the word "femmes" and the word "Canada" are in bold. On the third line, centred in small, sans-serif, black capital letters, it reads "La journée internationale des femmes, 8 mars 2012"

The Status of Women Canada graphic signature and the "Canada" wordmark appear in the lower left- and right-hand corners of the poster respectively.
