Introduction to GBA+

Intersectionality: Mary

If we neglect to consider intersecting factors among women, men and gender-diverse people while developing, delivering and evaluating initiatives, we risk missing or misreading the experiences of a significant portion of the Canadian population.

It is therefore critical that we apply GBA+ to optimize the impact and effectiveness of all federal initiatives.

What does this mean for Mary?

In this case, we can see that a combination of intersecting factors influence Mary's experiences. If we consider only one of these factors when developing policies or initiatives, we might find that we have excluded Mary and other women like her.
