Introduction to GBA+

Applying GBA+ by function

Using GBA+ in emergency planning can ensure more effective and inclusive approaches to the management of risk and in the process of recovery.

Planners need to look at vulnerabilities but they must also consider the capacities, resources and skills that women and men in different life circumstances bring to emergency preparedness, response and recovery. And they must do this without exploiting or reinforcing gender stereotypes.

By asking GBA+ questions at every stage of the process, we can more thoroughly understand the different experiences of various groups of people and thus improve strategic planning and resource allocation. This will minimize potential negative impacts and strengthen response and recovery initiatives.
