Minister of State (Status of Women) Announces Call for Proposals for Women's Projects

OTTAWA - The Honourable Helena Guergis, Minister of State (Status of Women), today announced the 2009 call for proposals to the Women's Community Fund of the Women's Program of Status of Women Canada.

"The Government of Canada is committed to advancing equality for women and girls on all fronts, and we recognize that one of the best ways to do that is to support initiatives that encourage economic and social participation of the women and girls of Canada. From innovative grassroots, local initiatives to visionary multi-phase national projects, the Women's Program is funding change in the lives of women and girls."

Status of Women Canada will focus its support on projects that address its 2009 priorities:

• Improving women's and girls' economic security and prosperity;
• Encouraging women and girls in leadership and decision-making roles; and
• Ending violence against women and girls.

Funding is available to eligible not-for-profit and for-profit organizations to carry out projects at the local, regional, provincial/territorial and national levels.

The objective of the Women's Community Fund is to address the economic and social situation of women and their participation in democratic life through projects that directly support women in their communities.

The deadline for submissions to the Women's Community Fund under the new call for proposals is September 30, 2009. Application forms and a new Information Guide are available on the Status of Women Canada web site at http://www.swc-cfc.gc.ca/.
