OTTAWA – The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, welcomed the tabling of the Enhancing Royal Canadian Mounted Police Accountability Act. This Act will give the RCMP the tools it needs to enhance trust and restore accountability in its ranks.
"I welcome the tabling of the Enhancing Royal Canadian Mounted Police Accountability Act," said Minister Ambrose. "Breaking down workplace barriers that prevent women's full participation takes courage, vision and tenacity. I am proud to be part of a government that embodies those qualities and I am pleased that we have successfully brought this important and much-needed legislation before Parliament."
The Enhancing Royal Canadian Mounted Police Accountability Act brings forward a number of measures that will make a difference for both women and men serving in the Force and for all citizens, including:
The RCMP will also be able to establish a single investigation and resolution process for alleged harassment by a member.
