Statement on behalf of The Honourable Rona Ambrose, P.C., M.P., Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, on the occasion of the 2010 Canadian Hispanic Business Awards ceremony in Toronto.

TORONTO, October 27, 2010 - I sincerely regret that I am unable to join you in person on this important occasion of the Canadian Hispanic Business Awards.

However, I am pleased to have this opportunity, on behalf of the Government of Canada, to congratulate the recipients of the 2010 Canadian Hispanic Business Awards. This year's winners exemplify the unique and admirable entrepreneurial spirit of Canada's Hispanic community: hard work and determination combined with creativity and vision.  Each nominee and recipient is a credit to the Hispanic Canadian population and to the business community as a whole, and each has positively contributed to the Canadian economy.

As Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Minister for Status of Women, I am delighted to extend particular congratulations to this year's Canadian Hispanic Business Woman of the Year. Her achievements are an inspiration to all of us.

I am proud to represent a government that believes women - in all of their diversity - must have the same opportunities as men to participate in decision-making processes and to prosper socially and economically.

There is still work to be done to enhance the role of women in all aspects of Canadian life - including government, the private sector and throughout civil society.  But by working with partners like the Toronto Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, we are helping to ensure that Canada is, and will continue to be, a great place to live, a place full of opportunity.

I extend my congratulations, once again, to the 2010 award winners and I wish all of you a wonderful evening.

The Honourable Rona Ambrose, P.C., M.P.
Minister of Public Works and Government Services
and Minister for Status of Women
