Applying Sex and Gender: Conclusion
Historically, sex and gender differences have not been considered in research on many diseases. This has had negative impacts on diagnosis and treatment for women.
Research has recently begun to identify some of the ways that sex and gender differences relate to risk factors, symptoms and patterns of cardio-vascular disease. Researchers are also examining the implications of these differences for diagnosis and intervention, including prevention, for men and women.
In our next module we will begin to move beyond the basic concepts of sex and gender.
We will revisit Mary at the end of the course to look at other factors that may affect her health.
