2 - What is Gender-Based Analysis+?

Now that you have reviewed the difference between sex and gender, we will begin an examination of Gender-Based Analysis+.

Gender-Based Analysis+ (GBA+) is a method for examining the intersection of sex and gender with other identity factors. When applied to government work, GBA+ can aid us in understanding how Canadian women and men experience public policy.

Women, men, boys and girls are not homogeneous groups. A variety of factors, sometimes referred to as identities, such as age, language, sexual orientation, education, ability, geographic location, migration status, faith, ethnicity and socio-economic status, merge with sex and gender to create someone’s experiences.

By using GBA+, we can take into account the factors that intersect with sex and gender to shape individual and group experiences, and ultimately, how these experiences influence the outcome of government initiatives.
