Why GBA+?

If we neglect to consider the intersecting factors of diverse groups of women and men when developing, delivering and evaluating government initiatives, we may miss or misread the experiences of a significant portion of the Canadian population.

Intersecting factors combine and shape how people live and interact in society. Their daily experience with these intersecting factors influences their ability to access government initiatives.

To ensure maximum effectiveness and impact, it is therefore critical to apply GBA+ when initiating, implementing and evaluating government initiatives.

In this case, we can see that a combination of factors influence Mary's experiences. If we consider only one of these factors in developing government initiatives, we might find that we have excluded Mary or women like her.
