Location: Montreal, Quebec
Date: 2006-09-22
Value: $34,060.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: The purpose of this group's project is to ensure that immigrant women are present and active in the labour force. The group has three objectives: (1) to analyse and identify program shortcomings with regard to skill recognition; (2) to mobilize community and organizational stakeholders; and (3) to ensure that immigrant women are part of related decision-making bodies. These objectives are to be achieved by means of a structured action plan. The group will recruit immigrant women to participate in four study days. These women will discuss difficulties encountered in finding employment and having skills recognized. From this pool, a number of women will be selected to sit on a committee that will write a paper identifying barriers and shortcomings in employment programs. In order to develop recommendations, the group will then organize a round table discussion and two working meetings between committee representatives and community social stakeholders.
