Purpose: In this two-year project, 75 young immigrant and refugee women in five Ottawa high schools will address issues of sexual violence, sexual harassment, intercultural and intergenerational conflicts, self-esteem, and body image in a safe and confidential environment. Ten young women will receive mentoring and training to take a leadership role in their communities. They will inform teachers and public educators in order to improve their understanding of young women’s needs. The tools developed in this project will be used by other volunteer organizations and social service agencies, including those that serve immigrants.
Comments: Multi-year project of 3 years (2007-2009).
