Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Société Elizabeth Fry du Québec
Location: Montreal, Quebec
Date: 2008-03-03
Value: $117,396.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This pilot project will give 75 women offenders the opportunity to attend multidisciplinary workshops in artistic creation (photography, video, audio, music, writing, painting, drama), conducted by artists trained specifically for this purpose. Designed with an educational focus, the workshops will take the form of activities to prepare for social and job reintegration. Their purpose is to motivate incarcerated women to acquire new tools or maintain their skills, with a view to possibly training or looking for a job. Workshop graduates will be provided with follow up for one year to assist them in their reintegration into the social, cultural and economic life of society. A showing of artworks produced during the workshops and a documentary film will be used to raise community awareness. Finally, if the evaluation is conclusive, the pilot project will become a separate, ongoing program of the Société Elizabeth Fry.
Comments: Multi-year project of 2 years (2008-2009).
