Purpose: “Wheelhouse Women” will bring together a group of self-identified and community identified immigrant and elder women to experience as well as learn group facilitation and mentorship skills. These women will then progress to designing and delivering public information sessions. The project will initially inform the core group of women, and then ultimately the community at large, about key economic issues and barriers faced by this population of women in the Comox Valley, BC. In the process, this project will contribute to increasing the skills, economic security, self-sufficency, and community participation of the participants and to decreasing the various levels of violence/abuse and exclusion these women experience.
Comments: Multi-year project of 3 years (2008-2010).
