Purpose: The Women's Access Project will use 4 key strategies to develop and test models to increase the economic security and safety of highly diverse groups of marginalized immigrant and racial minority women residing in shelters and isolated neighbourhoods that are widely distributed across a major urban setting. The 4 key strategies include: an employment model for women residing in shelters; an itinerant pre-employment service model for women in isolated, high-poverty neighbourhoods; a micro-credit access program model; and, a community engagement model to link women leaders from across all sectors with participants in the project in order to broaden their support networks. Over 400 women will participate in one of many activities: career and employment information sessions, job search workshops, technology and workplace skills training, pre-employment needs assessment, volunteering or employment opportunities, focus groups and financial literacy and business skills workshops.
Comments: Multi-year project of 3 years (2008-2010).
