Purpose: The pilot will equip 25 Deaf women with leadership skills and tools that will enable them to train up to 430 young Deaf women to become involved in the development of their community. A week-long intensive leadership training will be provided to 25 Deaf women across Canada. These women will be paired with 25 women leaders/mentors who will provide mentorship throughout the project. The leadership training will focus on topics such as effective communication, leadership styles, conflict resolution, board development, outreach and networking, public speaking, building a career and effective mentoring. Each of the trained Deaf women will organize a series of local workshops to train the Deaf women in their local communities (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Regina, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Halifax and St. John’s). The 25 Deaf women will also work with their local Deaf organizations to develop sustainable leadership and community development programs.
