Purpose: Based on the Sustainable Livelihoods Model, an anti-poverty approach designed specifically for low income women, this 36 month pilot project will provide support, training and mentoring to single parent women through a wide variety of resources such as workshops on budgeting, financial and computer literacy, business management, co-operative development theories, governance and other democratic processes. Support to Single Parents and its community partners will provide the expertise of mentors and coaches helping 50 low income women build their personal, social, human and financial assets so as to successfully become proactive towards self sufficiency, while having the advantage of developing a shared responsibility for the development of approximately five new business management and co-operative enterprises and initiatives. This pilot project will be based on inclusion, feminist principles and co-operative development approaches. At the end of the pilot, a comprehensive Model-Report on "Building Sustainable Livelihoods for Low Income Women through Co-operative Enterprise Development" will be produced and distributed to other women's groups across Canada.
Comments: Multi-year project of 36 months.
