Purpose: The project will help women and girls living in Edmonton who have been in contact with the criminal legal system increase their individual financial knowledge and skills with the objective of increasing their sense of independence, motivating them to set realistic goals and assisting them to become contributing members of society. This 14-part workshop-based financial literacy initiative will facilitate economic knowledge and self-reliance. The curriculum includes asset building, financial education, and community resources, and builds upon each individual’s strengths. With three intakes of participants per year, the workshop series will be evaluated and the curriculum revised to best meet the specific needs of the client group.
