|Purpose: ||This project will provide 270 immigrant and refugee women with financial literacy skills through a series of educational workshops. The workshops will be multi-faceted and comprehensive; beginning with basic banking, budgeting and saving, to understanding how current structures impact womens economic security. Workshops will be given by a combination of project staff, peer mentors and financial experts and developed with the assistance of a focus group. Women will have the opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in practical activities and to plan for their economic independence. This project will assist immigrant families in the Hamilton area to break the cycle of poverty by allowing children to grow up in a household where parents of both genders make informed financial decisions.
