Purpose: This 12 month pilot project consists of creating a culturally sensitive approach to educating immigrant women and community agencies and professionals on the dynamics of abusive relationships in various cultures, as well as the barriers faced by immigrant women and their families in overcoming abusive situations. Tools and education material will be developed to aid community agencies, local professionals, settlement workers as well as the impacted women themselves. Input will be sought from immigrant women through an advisory committee and focus group as well as from community service providers and settlement counsellors through a separate series of focus groups. Workshops will ultimately be delivered with a focus on including immigrant women speakers amongst a panel of experts.
