Purpose: This pilot project “Wicohkamawew” (Women’s Residential Support Team) will increase access to community supports and services in Red Deer for Aboriginal women who have experienced abuse and are currently living in transitional housing. The project will be delivered through workshops and group sessions, the development of personal action plans, as well as the support of a community facilitator who will go into the community to establish the supports required. Activities are aimed at increasing women’s safety through the development of effective and traditional strategies for safe living, as well as linking women with approproate social, employment and educational training services in the Red Deer area.
