Recipient Name: Femmes francophones de l’Ouest du Labrador
Location: Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador
Date: 2009-01-13
Value: $12,770.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This six-month project will reduce the isolation of Acadian and Francophone women and young women in western Labrador who are experiencing problems linked to domestic violence. The target group of women and girls will participate in a series of workshops and information sessions, given by specialists and experts, on the undisclosed impact of domestic violence; develop tools to provide support and assistance; and come up with possible solutions adapted to their circumstances of living in a rural environment in a Francophone minority community. Fifty women from the rural regions of western Labrador will have an opportunity to strengthen their feelings of solidarity, benefit from practical tools, and acquire new skills and capabilities that will allow them to make the decisions needed to improve their quality of life and participate in society.
