Purpose: The Bottom Line: Gender Diversity at the Board Level is a new national pilot project targeted initiative designed to increase the awareness of Canada’s corporate leaders of the business case to removing barriers and increasing the number of female directors. The goal is to increase the percentage of Financial Post 500 (FP 500) corporate board seats occupied by women by 2013. The objectives are to: increase the number of companies with at least one female director (currently 202 of the FP 500 companies representing 40.4% have no female directors); increase the number of sectors where boards have at least 10% women (seats on boards of companies in 19 of 42 sectors are 90+% occupied by men); and increase the number of companies with more than one female director (28.5%).
