Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Urban Core Support Network Saint John Inc.
Location: Saint John, New Brunswick
Date: 2010-03-15
Value: $200,000.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: POWER UP! Mentoring is a 24-month project that will develop and implement a mentoring component for low-income women, mostly single parents, living in Saint John’s priority neighbourhoods. The Urban Core Support Network will train and empower 12 leadership graduates from their last pilot project to become community-based facilitators and mentors to the new participants. Subsequently, they will co-deliver and co-facilitate a series of workshops and hands-on sessions to approximately 120 women living in poverty. Delivery will focus on life skills, personal and financial assets, labour force participation and community networking. Participants will develop a personal action plan to reach and maintain economic self-sufficiency, either by engaging in further training and/or education or by becoming more active in leadership roles in their communities and building a new life free of poverty.
