Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: The Multicultural Women's Organization of Newfoundland and Labrador
Location: St. John’s, Newfoundland
Date: 2010-03-15
Value: $45,040.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 12-month project will help new immigrant women prepare to enter and be productive in the Newfoundland and Labrador labour force. The organization will provide eight culturally adapted workshops, participatory focus groups and empowerment sessions to increase the leadership and decision-making skills of about 75 new immigrant women. Immigrants who have secured jobs and already taken substantial steps towards independence and economic security will be invited to share their stories with new immigrants. A support group of past project participants and service providers will be engaged in the process to help the women improve their job search skills, learn about new labour markets and their benefits, and gain the skills to seek out and secure employment.
