Purpose: During the 24-month project, 10 young women with intellectual disabilities will be trained as leaders and mentors for other women who are living with similar problems. Training will include 11 workshops (minimum) and will focus on the development of skills to lead and facilitate a group, being a mentor to 20 other young women with an intellectual disability, learning about inclusion and women’s rights, learning independent living skills and developing presentations. Subsequent presentations, of which a schedule of 10 is planned, and four focus groups, will resolve around peer groups and community groups. Protocols for inclusion with partners and a manual will be developed for future champions of leadership.
