Recipient Name: Girls Incorporated of Limestone, Algonquin and Lakeshore
Location: Kingston, Ontario
Date: 2010-03-15
Value: $73,712.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 18 month project will allow 40 women, mostly single mothers, to access tools to become more confident parents and community leaders. Participants will be supported to identify and overcome barriers to community participation, leadership opportunities and positive relationships with their children, particularly their daughters. Workshops addressing financial literacy, work/life balance, parenting skills, employment, continuing education and self esteem will enable participants to increase their ability to act as positive role models for their children. Additionally, project participants will develop, implement and facilitate a series of workshops to deliver to other mothers in the area. This will allow participants to practice leadership skills and gain transferable work experience.
