Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: The Redwood for Women and Children Fleeing Abuse
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Date: 2010-03-15
Value: $350,280.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 36-month project will build on the project previously funded by SWC. During Phase 1, the Redwood developed culturally sensitive training modules addressing the barriers facing immigrant women in accessing domestic violence support services. Phase 2 will allow the Redwood to incorporate the training modules into a manual, producing a comprehensive training tool, which will be used by newcomer service agencies and other women’s shelters to support immigrant women facing abuse. 30 immigrant women who have survived abuse will be encouraged to take a role in this process, providing education regarding violence and support services to 270 of their peers as well as advice on practices that other agencies, specifically 35 partners, can use to reach marginalized, immigrant women facing abuse. By focusing on the improvement of the quality of services provided to immigrant women, the Redwood will increase its own success rate, and that of other local agencies, in reaching out to marginalized immigrant women and supporting them to end violence in their lives.
Comments: Multi-year project of 36 months
