Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Canadian Mental Health Association
Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Date: 2010-03-15
Value: $36,604.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 17-month project will build on previously funded project “Sexual Assault education and outreach in Southeast Alberta”. In the previous project, resource kits were developed to help female victims access the resources available to them in their particular community, following a disclosure of sexual assault/sexual abuse. Those were a useful resource to each community; however, much more direct support was needed in each of these rural communities when responding to a sexual assault or sexual abuse. Many rural communities had very limited resources when it came to responding to a sexual assault and/or a sexual abuse. This next phase will address this issue through community development principle and distribution model of services. South eastern Alberta region does not have a sexual assault crisis centre and approximately half of the population in lives in rural communities. This project would reach out to the women across the region having experienced sexual violence to help them overcome barriers to safety, treatment, support and recovery. This project will focus on transferring knowledge gained through the previous project by doing presentations to the women, training to the local service providers and the resource kits will be shared through various professional networks.
