Purpose: This 24-month project will assist 150 Aboriginal women and young girls (aged 12 to 17 years) in Winnipeg’s inner city to develop their skills and knowledge as well as a deeper understanding of the barriers that impact their participation in their families, schools, community and neighbourhoods. The project will provide: culturally appropriate violence prevention workshops; life skills training; leadership development workshops; a series of monthly open dialogue forums with social service agencies; and monthly talking circles. The skills they develop will assist them in identifying alternatives and increasing their resilience in order to live violence-free.
