Purpose: This 14-month project will work with 80 immigrant women of African descent in the Regina area. The organization will deliver workshops on group process skills and organizational communication. It will also offer an internship program to encourage participants to join and become active contributors to committees. A “Business Club” will create a broad network of community contacts and encourage ideas for income generation. The club will invite business experts to speak about market prospects, regulations and costs and will provide general guidance on how to start a business. With this expert assistance, five of the participants are expected to create a business plan. These five women will receive the necessary assistance from professional mentors, resource people or peer leaders to move their business plans to the next level. All participants will receive ongoing support to ensure maximum benefits and planned outcomes and are achieved.
