Purpose: This 24-month project will respond to the specific needs of women, including Aboriginal and immigrant women, who have experienced abuse as they transition to violence-free lives. Innovative service delivery models and supports will be tested over the course of the project to ensure women using shelters benefit from new approaches and standards. The project will facilitate improvements in services for abused women and results will be shared with organizations working on similar issues across Canada. The proposed project will develop culturally meaningful tools that will assist women in breaking the cycle of repeatedly returning to an abusive situation. The primary population will be Aboriginal women in need of second stage services in the Prince George area.
