Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Agincourt Community Services Association
Location: Scarborough, Ontario
Date: 2011-03-18
Value: $16,735.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 36-month project will address the issue of forced marriage by creating a working partnership between Status of Women Canada, Agincourt Community Services and the Toronto School Board – Continuing Education Department. Six hundred immigrant women will gain awareness and understanding of their rights as Canadians, the resources available to them as well as possible solutions to forced marriage. Thirty women, acting on an advisory committee, will work with the organization and the school board to integrate women’s experiences, stories of forced marriage and resources available into the “English as a Second Language” curriculum. This will allow English instructors, often a first point of contact for newcomers, to address the issue in class and link women with the appropriate resources. A comprehensive toolkit will be developed and distributed to other service providers, allowing them to increase their abilities to assist women who have been, or are at risk of being, forced into marriage. SUPPLEMENT: Additional funding will allow the group to better track and capture project outcomes and assist in identifying potential best or promising practices by developing an evaluation component that will help to measure the results of the project.
