Recipient Name: Plan International Canada
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Date: 2011-03-21
Value: $482,110.00
Type: Contribution
Purpose: The 36 month project aims to establish a network of girl-led clubs across the country to empower girls and young women to assume leadership roles in their schools and communities. The project will provide an opportunity for 2,000 girls between the ages of 12 and 18 to gain an increased understanding of the links between domestic and international girl-relevant issues and become global civic actors. The content of the project will cover a wide spectrum of topics to keep girls engaged within the broader aim of empowering them as leaders and strengthening their decision-making skills. Based on the knowledge and skills gained, Club members will implement youth led activities in their schools and communities to increase awareness of gender-based discrimination and barriers girls face nationally and internationally, and opportunities for change. Throughout the project, Plan Canada will focus on building partnerships with school boards to encourage the integration of the project in support of building girls programming in schools across the country.
