Purpose: This three-year project will bring together provincial / territorial shelter organizations across Canada to work to improve the access to and quality of services for women who are in abusive situations, with a focus on Aboriginal, immigrant and rural women. The project will coordinate the national exchange and implementation of proven, promising, and innovative practices and service delivery models across Canada, through the establishment of a national network, including a strategy and action plan to link women’s shelters across Canada. The project will also pilot, implement and evaluate one proven practice across Canadian shelters. By establishing a strong national voice, shelters will be able to act together to identify and effectively address their common issues and goals. Their work will be carried out in collaboration with stakeholders, including government departments, community-based service providers, and women who are victims of family violence. AMENDMENT: The organization will undertake additional activities in support of the project’s overall objectives. Activities will include the facilitation of knowledge sharing and the participation of shelters in Northern Canada; leveraging of web-based technology to broaden access and flow of sheltering and violence against women expertise; and enhance and advance knowledge exchange of shelter best practices within the global community.
