Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Val d'Or Native Friendship Centre Inc.
Location: Val-d’Or, Quebec
Date: 2013-02-01
Value: $200,000.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 24-month project will build partnerships and collaboration between individuals, communities and stakeholders to identify and respond to the specific barriers that young Aboriginal women in Val d’Or in Abitibi-Temiscamingue and the neighbouring communities of Lac Simon, Kitcisakik and Pikogan face in participating in civic, political and community life. A component on individual and collective empowerment will identify the obstacles young women and girls face in becoming leaders in their communities, and will ask successful Aboriginal women leaders to share their experiences and expertise with the participants. Culturally appropriate workshops will be developed for participants to address the under-representation of young women and girls in leadership positions.
