Purpose: This 24-month project will address institutional barriers and other factors that limit community efforts to address the issue of cyberviolence against young women and girls in Ottawa, Ontario. Service providers, youth organizations, academics, technology firms and social media platforms will be engaged to improve local services, as well as transform digital spaces. Youth will help identify the issues of cyberviolence affecting young women and girls, expand their understanding of these issues, and in partnership with stakeholders, help carry out strategies to prevent or eliminate this form of gender-based violence in their community. Strategies will leverage existing community efforts to address violence against women and examine new methods for social media companies and users to prevent and eliminate cyberviolence online.
