Purpose: This 36 month project will address the barriers faced by rural, agri-food based business and entrepreneur women in Alberta in diversifying and participating in regional food systems. The project will review various engagement models to identify promising practices to adapt and pilot an approach within communities to create a new model for women to be more successful in participating in local food economies and public policy process. It will develop a framework for services, support and engagement in policy development for women farmers and agri-business owners to create sustainable and diversified businesses that can capture commercial opportunities. The project will engage women and community partners in developing strategies to increase women's participation in regional food production to increase economic prosperity for women and develop a comprehensive approach to increase leadership roles of women in farming and agri-business to participate in agri-business related policy development process.
