Response to Parliamentary Committees and External Audits
Response to parliamentary committees
On March 7, 2014, the Special Committee on Violence against Indigenous Women tabled its report, “Invisible Women: A Call to Action”. The Report contained 16 recommendations for action to raise awareness, support communities, support families of victims, improve police services, and address these and related issues through a coordinated action plan.
The Government Response, signed by the Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, was tabled on September 15, 2014. In the Response, the Government outlines its Action Plan to Address Family Violence and Violent Crimes Against Aboriginal Women and Girls, which consolidates Government initiatives organized under three complementary pillars: Preventing Violence by supporting action and solutions at the community level; Supporting Aboriginal victims by providing appropriate services; and, Protecting Aboriginal Women and Girls by investing in shelters and continuing to improve the criminal justice and police response.
