Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: SENIORS' UNIVERSITY GROUP INC.
Location: Regina, Saskatchewan
Date: 2007-10-12
Value: $32,730.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This project will provide information and support regarding the violence that Aboriginal women and girls experience, helping them choose safe and healthy relationships and lifestyles. Ten Grandmothers will serve as mentors and teachers to provide positive, realistic role models for 30 girls, most of whom are Aboriginal. The project will develop and pilot age-appropriate, culturally sensitive violence prevention education modules that incorporate Aboriginal traditions. The Grandmothers and girls will develop skills in public speaking, curriculum development and facilitation by giving presentations of the developed modules to an estimated 120 students in the partnering school(s). This project will be developed and delivered in partnership with inner-city schools and community organizations in Regina. There are plans to share the modules with other groups so that similar programs may be offered in other schools and in the community.
