Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: RIVERDALE IMMIGRANT WOMEN’S ENTERPRISE
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Date: 2007-10-12
Value: $167,415.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This 18 month project will reach 150 isolated and unemployed immigrant and refugee women, of whom 50 will participate in developing and testing tools and programs that will support them in making the transition from being full-time mothers to active workers or business owners. Fifty women will test a curriculum that provides knowledge on Canadian labour practices and values, legislation regarding the labour market, and the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees. Their strengths, skills and experience will connect them to the jobs they are interested in. They will then do job shadowing to experience the field and confirm their choices. At the end of the project, participants will have registered in training to offset gaps, entered into the job market, or started their own business. Lessons learned and best practices will be shared with other women’s centres in Ontario.
