Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Action travail des femmes du Québec
Location: Montreal, Quebec
Date: 2008-03-03
Value: $95,594.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: The purpose of the Action travail des femmes (ATF) project is to enable immigrant women with foreign diplomas to achieve financial independence and thus integrate fully into society. ATF has two goals: 1) assisting 200 immigrant women with foreign diplomas in undertaking and completing the process of achieving recognition of their learning and skills, and 2) providing guidance to a pilot group of 20 such women who have achieved equivalency recognition as they acquire initial experience in their chosen fields. Two major classes of activities will be conducted. First, ATF will hold information workshops on topics such as employment in Quebec and Canada, the issues and challenges of a diversified society, the process of achieving recognition of one’s learning and skills, job hunting, and employment equity measures. This process is seen as complementary to that which is conducted through government networks. A second series of activities will guide participating women as they seek to gain recognition of their diplomas, and assist a pilot group of 20 women as they undertake internships in the workplace.
