Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Maison des Jeunes de Bordeaux-Cartierville
Location: Montreal, Quebec
Date: 2008-03-03
Value: $205,750.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: Projet Lilas - Phase II aims to eliminate violence and discrimination against girls by developing tools with which to offset the influence of two main types of media: teen magazines and hip hop music. This unique approach to intervention and prevention among young people involves many local, regional and provincial partners. Prevention workshops (sexual assault, hypersexualization, cyber-intimidation and courses on proper conduct for young men) lead to the production of a teen magazine and a hip hop song with a message of respect towards girls. In so doing, approximately 100 girls, accompanied by 20 boys, will perform a tangible civic action, sharpen their discernment and develop non-violent and respectful relationships. Projet Lilas – Phase II aims to help schools, local community centres and various other organizations throughout Quebec to introduce similar initiatives in their environments.
Comments: Multi-year project of 2 years (2008-2009).
