Purpose: This 12 month project will assist 100 Black senior women to improve their economic situation. Weekly workshops will be offered throughout the year addressing the following topics: financial literacy; understanding and accessing Canadian and overseas pensions; affordable housing; and, understanding fraud, crime and violence against senior women. The project coordinator will work in collaboration with the Afro-Canadian Caribbean Association of Hamilton and District Women’s Advisory Committee to create informative workshops with qualified guest speakers. Resource manuals regarding each workshop topic. The manuals will be distributed to senior women in the immediate and surrounding communities as well as to agencies serving this population.
