|Purpose: ||This 15 month initiative will target the personal and professional growth of twenty (20) First Nations women directly and an additional twenty (20) from the community who will replace the participants in their jobs while they are on training. Participants will take a number of courses and training to increase their leadership skills, and their knowledge of governance, community development, and politics. The project will adopt an empowerment approach by providing women with the opportunity to discuss and focus on issues related to community capacity and their own leadership roles. All participants will be enrolled in a mentorship network. The causes of the under representation of women as decision-makers on tribal and band councils, management boards and boards of directors of Aboriginal organizations will be addressed. The outcome of the project will be an improvement of the status of Aboriginal women through increasing womens decision making within organizations.
