Purpose: As a direct result of extensive collaborative community consultation, this 18 month pilot project is focused on strengthening the employability and/or career advancement of 20 Aboriginal Women by providing a newly designed and accredited, culturally-based certificate training program that also addresses the growing demand for skilled workers in the area of supporting women, children, and youth who have been exposed to violence within the province of Manitoba. The training will not only empower the participants through skill development and increasing their employability to positively impact their full participation in the economic, social, and cultural life of Canadian society, but will also provide the opportunity to more effectively address the impact of violence against women, children, and youth. Tuition and training costs will be covered by other funders.
