Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: ihuman Youth Society
Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Date: 2008-03-03
Value: $202,436.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This project aims to enhance the lives of Edmonton’s young mothers and their children. It will reach at least 36 high-risk, young, mothers and expectant mothers, many of whom are Aboriginal. The project will work with young mothers and emphasize life skill training using the arts. Activities will include: outreach, workshops and education sessions, ongoing support and counselling, assistance in accessing existing support networks, training staff in therapy technique, and the creation of educational pod casts. Using the adapted “theraplay” model, iHuman plans to develop and provide an effective program that will specifically target and help high-risk young women. As a result it is expected that participants will be accessing the services they require, and that they will also be moving towards improving their social and economic situation by breaking unhealthy life style choices.
Comments: Multi-year project of 3 years (2008-2010).
