Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: Hope and Area Transition Society
Location: Hope, British Columbia
Date: 2008-03-03
Value: $66,594.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: Witnessing violence greatly increases the chances that girls may accept violence in their future dating and marital relationships. Violence prevention education and intervention programs play a critical role in breaking the cycle of family violence by addressing the root causes of abuse. This project will help young girls and women recognize inherited negative values and beliefs regarding relationships and raise awareness of gender-role conditioning in their lives and society. With the adoption of new tools, young girls and women will increase their own capacity and begin rebuilding their self-confidence, esteem, and self-worth, which will foster healthier life style choices. This project will provide ten weeks of sessions for girls and women to explore and build personal resources and skills that can have a lasting and powerful effect on their ability to have healthy relationships.
Comments: Multi-year project of 3 years (2008-2010).
