Disclosure of Grant and Contribution Awards

Recipient Name: National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly (NICE)
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Date: 2008-03-03
Value: $155,874.00
Type: Grant
Purpose: This project will contribute to the greater safety and socio-economic participation of older women who have experienced domestic abuse. Older women experience greater barriers to leaving abusive relationships and the consequences of abuse have graver impact on their health and well-being. Women affected by domestic abuse in later life will participate in the development, evaluation and sharing of a peer resource booklet and best practices toolkit in partnership with service providers in three sectors: aging/elder abuse, domestic violence and homelessness. Two tools will be piloted during eight "train the trainer" workshops in the three sectors (including Francophone sites) then upgraded and distributed to service providers and clients at 18 agencies. The tools will be translated with the support of the NICE network to an additional three sites across Canada.
